          - In what ways does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media texts?

Interestingly, the costume for Anderson’s mother subverts the

forms and conventions of real media texts. Evidently, her

costume consists of a woollen hat and a black coat. The costume

challenges conventional costumes in film as it is extremely

simplistic. I wanted the costume to represent the simplistic

lifestyle that Anderson yearns for during his flashbacks.

Also, the garden location challenges the conventions of the

neo-noir, science-fiction genre. I used this location as its

optimistic connotations juxtapose and heighten the dreariness

of the futuristic city.

Additionally, I challenged the conventions of lighting. Typically,

neo-noir, science-fiction films use low-key lighting to

demonstrate which characters are the film’s antagonists.

However, for shots of the government worker (an antagonist in

‘Blood Feud’), I used natural lighting. I intended to use natural

lighting to depict the idea that the government’s control of the

city is the ‘natural’ order in the dystopian future.

Moreover, I used unusual camera positioning in order to

challenge the forms and conventions of real media texts. For

example, I included a point-of-view shot, from the Leader

perspective, of the Leader’s notes. Indeed this could be seen as

rejection of the form of real media texts as audiences rarely see the film’s events from the antagonist’s point-of-view. I introduced this camera position so my trailer would include the postmodern idea of pluralism – if the audience want to interpret the film in a different way to the preferred reading, such as feeling compassion for the Leader, then this would be entirely up to the individual’s understanding of my film.

In the trailer for ‘Blood Feud’, I subverted the conventional use of sound in film trailers. Notably, I did not use diegetic dialogue as I applied a voiceover to explain the film’s narrative to my audience. Inspired by the blunt and short dialogue in 'Mad Max: Fury Road' (2015), I wanted there to be a complete lack of dialogue in my trailer in order to reflect the breakdown of society that is explored in my film’s narrative.
